Requirements for MA
Comparative Literature Programme:
Candidates shall possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree
with a CGPA of not less than 3.0 points on a 5 point scale or its
equivalent in Literature from a recognized University. Graduates in
English have to produce evidence of a minimum of two years (four
semesters) academic exposure to French or another language of
International communication.
African Language
There is a Special African Language requirement for the
Comparative Literature Programme. Any candidate who is deficient in
speaking, reading or writing an African language will be required to
take an appropriate course in the Department of Linguistics and
Communication Studies and produce evidence of having passed that course.
Requirements for PhD
Comparative Literature Programme:
Candidates must have an M.A. degree in Literature or M.A. degree
in other related discipline from a recognized University. In addition,
candidates must have at least a CGPA of 3.50 points on a 5 point scale
in their M.A. degree.

Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) Regular and Sandwich
(Long Vacation) basis.
The programme consists of four areas, namely:

Requirements -
Candidates must possess any of
the following degrees;
(a) BSc, BA, B.Eng, MSc, M.A,
MBA, PhD (without any Teaching Certificate) and their equivalent from a
recognized University.
(b) HND Upper Credit and its
equivalent from recognized Polytechnics.
(ii) Duration a)
Full-Time: The programme will last for minimum of 12 calendar
months and maximum of 24 calendar months.
(iii) Part-Time:
(Sandwich), The programme will last for a minimum duration of two
long vacations and maximum of 3 long vacations.
E. FACULTY OF ENGINEERING
Requirements for Faculty
of Engineering 1.
PGD Programmes:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3rd
Class Honours in his/her choice of discipline or a minimum of 22
in any other
related Engineering discipline.
2.
M.Eng Programmes:
Candidates must possess either a Bachelor’s Degree with minimum
of Second Class Honours in the relevant Discipline, with a minimum CGPA
of 3.0 on a 5 point scale or PGD in the relevant areas with minimum CGPA
of 3.50 on a 5 point scale.
3.
PhD Programmes:
Candidates must possess the M.Eng Degree in the relevant Engineering
discipline and should have a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5 point scale.
Candidates would be required to attend an interview before admission and
registration for the programme, and will be required to write a
qualifying examination after a minimum stay of 2 semesters.
Only a pass in the qualifying examination confirms the student’s
candidacy for the Ph.D programme.

Holders of MB.BS, DVVM or BVM, Pharmacy, Pharmacology,

PhD programmes:
Candidates must possess an M.Sc with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 or M.Phil
degree or its equivalent in Human Physiology.

40. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY
(i) M.Sc
Pharmacology
(a) Candidates
must possess a Second Class Honours Degree with at least a
CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale or its equivalent in Pharmacology
from the
University of Port Harcourt or other recognized Universities.
(b) Holders of
good degree in Medicine and Surgery, Veterinary Medicine,
Dentistry, Physiology, and related Biomedical Science subjects.
(ii) Ph.D in
Pharmacology, Candidates must possess an M.Sc with a minimum of 3.50
CGPA on a 5 point scale or an M.Phil Degree or an equivalent

Pharmacology.
41. M.Sc Sports Medicine (a)
For medically qualified persons with MB.BS, B.Ch or a fellowship
in any Medical
discipline. (b)
The duration of Course is 18 – 36 months.
The Course work will be taught in two semesters of 12 months
while the student
will spend the remaining 6 months in a training attachment and a
project work. (c)
Area of specialty – Sports Medicine generally, while the project
work will be on
Sport of interest.
DURATION OF GRADUATE
PROGRAMMES
A. Postgraduate Diploma in
Education (PGDE)
The Programme is to run on a Full-Time basis to last for a
minimum of 12 calendar months and maximum of 24 calendar months and also
on a Part-Time basis for two (2) consecutive Long Vacations of eight (8)
Weeks each (Sandwich Programme).
B.
Master of Education (M.Ed)
Sandwich Programmes.
The Programme will spread over
three Long vacations as follows: (i)
Course work (including Seminar) to be completed in two (2)
consecutive Long Vacations.
D.
MBA Programme
Full-Time: Minimum of 24 Calendar Months and Maximum of 48
Calendar Months
Part-Time: Minimum of 36 Calendar Months and Maximum of 60
Calendar Months.
E.
MD and MS Programmes
The Programmes will be at least 24 Calendar Months duration.
F.
Ph.D Programmes
Full-Time candidates will be required to spend a minimum of 24
calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months.
Part-Time candidates will be required to spend a minimum of 36
calendar months and a maximum of 84 calendar months
GENERAL ADMISSION
REQUIREMENTS
ALL PGD PROGRAMMES
The minimum requirements for the Postgraduate Diploma Programmes
is a Bachelor’s Degree in the related disciplines. Candidates must
possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree or Third Class in the
related Discipline. For HND holders a minimum of Upper Credit is
acceptable in the relevant Departments.
PGDCHE
For the Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry (PGDCHE) Programme,
candidates with Third Class need not apply.
MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Candidates must possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree of
the University of Port Harcourt or any recognized University, in the
relevant subject with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 points on a 5 point scale
or its equivalent. Candidates for the Master’s in Education must have
obtained a first degree in another field and in addition a Postgraduate
Diploma in Education (PGDE) with at least an Upper Credit
classification. Candidates for the MBA Programme must possess a strong
qualitative background. Candidates with PGD must have a CGPA of 3.50 to
register for Master’s Degree in the relevant field.
PhD PROGRAMMES
Candidates for the PhD Programmes should have a Master’s Degree
with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or its equivalent grade in the relevant
discipline at the Master’s level. Admission will be based on interview
